THE BLIZZARD OF THE CENTURY!

February 14-17, 2003

He sends the snow like white wool; he scatters frost upon the ground like ashes.

Psalm 147:16, NLT

Admittedly the twenty-first century is still very young, but so far the storm we've just seen qualifies as the blizzard of the century! From late evening on Friday, February 14 through most of Monday, February 17 we saw heavy snow driven by 15-25 mile per hour winds. Exact amounts are hard to estimate du to the drifting, but my measurements would indicate 16-17 inches as of 1:00 P.M. on Monday. The storm has passed, but forecasters are calling for it to double back and hit us again, dropping as much as 6 additional inches of snow before Tuesday morning. Look at the bottom of the page for an update.

The storm foced us to cancel our services this past Lord's Day, including our Annual Corporation Meeting and dinner afterward.

I went for a walk this morning and took the pictures you'll see below. They'll give you an idea of what it was like around Bloomfield.

Here's a picture of the Manse. There is a three-foot drift in front of the garage door, as well as 2-1/2 feet of packed snow at the front of the driveway. Mark Blackstone came by yesterday and dug us out, twice! Thanks, Mark, and all the other Good Samaritans in the area who are digging their neighbors out!

Here's how it looked heading down the Bloomfield Hill.

Here's our friend and neighbor, Jerry Cavanaugh, digging out his truck so that he can get started plowing.

The only way to get around is with a great big 4-wheel drive pickup, like this one our friend and neighbor Richard Dodd is driving.

Here's what the church looked like, from the front..

and from the side! You can see why we didn't have services!

Some people know how to enjoy the snow! Cousins Chris Ballantine and Josh Thomas were out all morning, having a great time.

For the rest of us, though, the blizzard of '03 means lots of work. Here's John Thomas digging out in front of his garage.

Here's a link to an article from this morning's Zanesville Times Recorder telling more about the blizzard.

And finally, a little music appropriate to the occasion- Let It Snow!

Your Pictures!

Here are some pictures that were sent to me!

This beautiful little snow princess is Amelia Lucas, daughter of Steve and Joy Lucas.

Mary Morrow sent this picture of two of her dogs. What a good time to be an indoor dog!

Do you have any pictures of the snowstorm? E-mail them to us!
