What is a Vespers Service?
An outdoor Vespers Service gives you the opportunity to experience life in the slow lane, to relax and enjoy the peace of worshiping the Lord as the setting sun marks the end of the Sabbath Day. The Bloomfield Grove has been used for Vespers Services for nearly sixty years. In the early days the crowds would number as many as five hundred. We've kept this tradition alive into the twenty-first century. Join us on the second and fourth Sunday evenings of June, July and August for a time of singing, fellowship and the sharing of the Word of God.
As you read this page you're listening to the hymn "Day is Dying in the West," the unofficial anthem of the Vespers Service. The words sum up so well what these services are all about:
Day is dying in the west;
Heav’n is touching earth with rest;
Wait and worship while the night
Sets the evening lamps alight
Through all the sky.
Holy, holy, holy, Lord God of Hosts!
Heav’n and earth are full of Thee!
Heav’n and earth are praising Thee,
O Lord most high!
